Layovers Done Right

Tuesday, May 26

I had a seven hour layover in Miami so I decided to ditch the airport and head to the beach. 10 years ago I spent a week in Miami as a Belizean refugee from Hurricane Mitch, which basically amounted to an impromptu vacation. Back then I fell in love with the town and in particular their beach, which is the best I’ve ever visited, mostly b/c of its size. It was just as good this time. As I was running on only a couple hours sleep that day (got up at 4AM in Mpls.) I splurged on one of those lawn chair/umbrella combos you can rent, and took a nap. I had to drag my airport carry-on suitcase with me across the sand, but it worked out as my alarm clock was inside! Here is a photo of my view upon waking up, after which I packed my things and went off in search of a good Cuban.

  1. Ouch, hope you will return with feet that are slightly darker at the end of the summer.
